William Lorne (Bill) Paxton, 77, died July 18, 2009 at his home in Orange, CA after a short illness.

Bill was born September 3, 1931 in Vancouver Canada. He was the only child of Arthur and Mary Paxton, a working-class couple. In 1932 his family, originally from the UK, moved back to Surrey England. But sadly, when Bill was 11 years old his father died and Bill was sent to boarding school in Bisley where he stayed until he graduated.

When he was just 18, all alone and with very little money, he set sail back to Canada. He later served his country in the Korean War.

After the war Bill studied at the University of Toronto earning his Chartered Accountants degree and receiving his C.P.A. title.

In 1961 he moved to Glendale, CA (he was tired of the cold of England and Canada) and later married Jean Underwood. They were set up on a blind date by a neighbor and got married six months later. On August 17th they would have celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary.

Bill’s long and successful career was spent primarily as a Chief Financial Officer for various organizations in Southern California including Apperson Business Forms and Advanced Business Graphics (ABG). He was considered a top-notch CFO, manager, and problem-solver by everyone he worked with. He said what he meant and meant what he said.

He retired in 1998 from ABG and spent his time traveling, walking his dog (that he received as a retirement present), watching the NFL, English Premier Soccer League and John Wayne movies. Bill was also very active in his church having served as both an elder and a deacon and enjoyed being part of the Schooners group.

He was looking forward to planning a trip to Australia but otherwise felt he had accomplished all of his life’s goals and had lived a long and happy life. A man of deep faith, Bill was not scared of death as he believed he was going to a “far far better place.”

Bill is survived by his wife Jean; daughter Lorna; son-in-law Jason; and dog Princess. He is further survived by his in- laws Corinne & Ed Scheibel; his nieces/nephews Randy, Vivian & Alex Scheibel; Ron, Shelley, Ryan, Katie and Kristin Scheibel; & Cathy, Ken & Ian Wagner; and Amanda, Andrew & Austin Steedman. Last and probably least his two spirited grand-dogs RiQui & Brie.

His passing has left a void in our lives and he will be missed and remembered always.

If you would like to make a donation in his name, please send it to Bill Paxton/1st Presbyterian Memorial Fund 191 N Orange St., Orange CA 92866.
